a boy is born and he is destined to be a mountaineer. from birth he will always have a fixed target. the ultimate challenge. the one peak that towers above the rest in its height and arrogance. mount everest. if this boy truly believes himself to be the best in his craft he will not rest till he has conquered the mountain. or the mountain has conquered him.a girl is born and she is destined to be a swimmer. she too from birth may have the ultimate target in mind. perhaps to swim the english channel. maybe it's the one accomplishment that will give her life a meaning. so she'll lie awake at night dreaming of it. whispering to herself she will do or die. another boy is born and he is destined to be a terrorist. it could be the country that he is born in or the circumstances he is thrown in to. but he too will be gene encoded with the thought of achieving the ultimate goal. how to destroy the most powerful city on earth. the one city that radiates power, in the one country that looms over the entire world with its presence. to take on such a force would surely be his ultimate aim. to show to the world that his twisted dark mind has the power to outthink such a power will be his mission. my heart bleeds for the people of america and the people of new york. god knows they have had to face one of the most dastardly acts of all time. fathers have lost sons. wives have lost husbands. children have lost parents. there are people whose bodies have been smashed to pieces and their loved ones will never see them again either in life, or to bury. it is one of the saddest episodes at a human level, and the victims cannot even be private in their grief. the camera is always there to catch every tear and every prayer and show it to the rest of the world. however, i do know one thing. what happens next is not about revenge, but more about the harvest that they will leave behind for their children. if the americans were to retaliate in an intelligent manner by: a) tightening security b) forming relevant alliances and systematically wiping out terrorist cells with precision and exactitude and c) using their awesome power with responsibility and greatness, then they will be saluted by the world and respected by all. if on the other hand they respond like an enraged giant stomping over the land and flattening the horizon with their missiles then the seeds will be sown for a bitter harvest to follow, maybe a generation later. it's just logical. they could wipe out an entire country, but there's been so much warning of their attack that the real forces of evil maybe elsewhere. let's face it, anyone who had the brains to engineer such an attack can easily make sure that he, or crucial members of his cell, reach india, singapore or even australia, within a week. then from a cosy sitting room in sydney they could watch it all on television as american fighter planes tear open the land. they would be safe but others might not be. hours later from an underground bunker a pregnant mother may emerge to find her husband and family dead. months later, another boy will be born and he will be destined to be a terrorist. with just one ultimate mission in his mind. kullarindiatimes.com
